Some one may do that to make it easier to get back in but it's not all that hard with out it and I would venture to say most of us here don't mark it. All it takes is a little twist while pushing in and then your done

No, the stock front driveshaft axle-side u-joint is crimped in place so it cannot be replaced without milling out the yoke. If the u-joint is toast you're supposed to replace the entire drive shaft. Yes, pretty dumb. But I looked at doing this and in the end just bought a new Adams drive shaft. alberto sendra
