Absolutely. Optical flow sensors and a barometer would probably suit you better than GPS perhaps. iNav supports them both if I recall. Keep in mind there are some barometers that are better than others. All aren't too expensive. Ultrasonic sensors may be of use as well depending on how high up exactly you wish to hover. They're quite cheap.
