Your genetic make-up, which you inherit from your parents, determines which antigens are present on your red blood cells. Your blood group is said to be: A+ (A positive) if you have A and rhesus antigens. WebYou will be offered a test for your blood group (A, B, AB or O) at your initial booking in appointment. The blood test will also check for the RhD antigen and show whether you’re rhesus positive (RhD-positive) or rhesus negative (RhD-negative). Blood types are inherited from your parents.
