WebIt seems the only difference in your route is hwy 26 west of Mt Hood or taking I-84 west. I would recommend going hwy 26 (with a short side trip to Timberline lodge) back to 35 to I-84. Hwy 26 from Mt Hood to Portland is nice, but the scenery in the Columbia Gorge is much more memorable.
